Custom
We regularly create custom pieces for private and commercial clients. Some are after an existing design in a different finish, while others want something entirely individual. Our studio in Litchfield, Connecticut, is a fully functioning one, so as long as what you’re after fits inside our kiln, we'd be happy to create it for you.
HOW WE DO IT
A custom piece is a collaboration. Its an opportunity to invite you into our world as well as better understand yours—how you live, how you’d like to live, what you’re drawn to, and, ultimately, how the piece will be used.
This can be done in one of two ways (even if you don’t have an exact idea of you want):

Adapting an existing piece
Using an existing Dumais Made design, we work together to select from our current textures and glazes to develop a style that suits. We're also able to alter the scale of a piece, but please check if this is feasible first.

Creating a completely custom piece
A completely custom Dumais Made piece begins with a conversation. We then send sketches and renderings, share glazes and texture samples, and even create a physical mock-up before the final design is produced.

How we do it
While the process behind creating a custom piece depends on its design and complexity, you can expect the following for any Dumais Made item that's made especially for you.

Regardless of whether you're adapting an existing design or creating something completely custom, we will provide sketches, illustrations or renderings of your piece, as well as relevant material samples so that you can make an informed decision. -

If we're creating something from scratch, or if you're producing a large number of pieces for a commercial project, we'll also create test pieces to ensure that the design is structurally sound and achieves the desired effect. -
3.
Once everything is approved, we'll cut, assemble, dry, fire, glaze, fire, fit, shade and test your finished piece, a process that takes approx. 6 to 8 weeks. Pieces are then carefully packaged and can be collected from our studio or shipped to you via UPS.
