Collection: 31 Days
Offering an intimate look into the creative practice of Charlie Dumais, 31 DAYS was born from a resolution to create. The collection represents a galvanizing journey for Charlie, who sought to reintegrate the cherished ritual of making back into daily life, committing to craft a pair of lamps each day for thirty-one days.
The resulting series includes wide-ranging forms and inspirations. The determination to create every day, while also allowing space without expectation or objective, was both rigorous and freeing. The process led Charlie to experiment with various found objects as well as new glazing techniques. Departing from the norm, Charlie utilized underglaze and incorporated unconventional materials like rope sourced from a fellow artist.
Many of the forms, textures and glazes produced over the course of the project represent exciting new directions for Charlie’s practice. Not all lamps created over the course of 31 DAYS were equally successful - some pieces cracked in their firing, others showing imperfections born from experimentation. The collection celebrates the lows as well as the highs equally.
